African-American finds note with racial slur in Florida hotel room

Michael Davis posted on his Facebook page this note found in his family's room at Art Ovation Hotel in Sarasota. Michael Davis found a note in his family's room at Art Ovation Hotel that read, "You're a n----r."The family went out to breakfast, and upon returning to the hotel room, Davis found the note on the lamp, written on the hotel's stationery. "The hotel manager ... saying that he would 'absolutely feel safe' in this hotel after this happened showed an unbelievable lack of empathy," read Davis' post. He moved his family to a hotel in Clearwater because they did not feel safe at the Art Ovation Hotel in Sarasota. More than 100 comments on the Facebook post flowed in, supportive of the Davis family.

Davis said that he is "still slightly concerned" about his initial exchange with management at the Art Ovation Hotel. Mayor Liz Alpert expressed her concern for the Sarasota community following the hotel incident.

"We are shocked to hear about your stay and hope you will accept our sincerest apology," the hotel management wrote. Ten minutes passed before a "disgruntled older man" stormed out of the front office to inspect the room, Johnsen said. "The manager FLIPS out and says that's it you're checking out, no refund!" Johnsen said.
