The Perkins house, built in 1880 on West William Street, could become part of a hotel if a developer's plan is approved by Delaware City Council. ▲The construction of a 3-story hotel addition to a 19th-century house on West William Street again was debated before Delaware City Council on July 9. The plan had been scheduled for its third reading, after which council ordinarily casts a vote, but the vote was delayed by Mayor Carolyn Kay Riggle, based on the request of Councilwoman Lisa Keller. Another resident who spoke June 25 urged council to let Manos renovate the Perkins house and build the hotel. Manos earlier cited Main Street Delaware awards he received for other renovation projects in the city.

"I don't think we'll get a single vote in favor of our community," he said in a call with reporters. "The City Council is pushing through a bill that does just one thing - it obliterates the privacy rights of thousands of New Yorkers to protect the record profits of the big hotel lobby, which has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Council's campaign coffers."

Clarence Council rebuked for hotel plan as residents speak out against development

according to Rosny Hill Friends Network convenor Peter Edwards said one of the group's biggest concerns was the leasing of public land for the development. "Here we have a test case for leasing off and privatising Crown land reserve," he said. "This includes traffic management, habitat assessment and natural values assessments for the Rosny Hill Nature Recreation Area. The Rosny Hill Nature Recreation Area is proclaimed under the Nature Conservation Act but is managed by the Clarence Council. "This area of land was set aside as a public reserve and the Rosny community is rightly concerned."
